A 700-tonne stone church in the German village of Heuersdorf was moved 12km to the neighbouring town of Borna before the Micrag mining corporation turned the village into a lignite mine. The solid-stone
Emmaus Church - which had been standing for over 700 years - was moved on a special transport vehicle
using 160 Continental IC40 Extra Deep industrial pneumatic tyres.
The complex project, involving high-precision manoeuvring into the centre of Borna, was made possible
by individually-steered wheel axles which could support 40 tonnes and turn 360 degrees while stationary.
Continental's IC40 Extra Deep tyres were selected in a special 355/65-15 size to withstand the enormous forces involved.
