On the 16th April 2011, at the Merredin and Districts Agricultural Show, 300 people participated in breaking the Guinness World Record of 'Most people simultaneously rolling car tyres".
With the slogan "Roll Away Your Spare Tyre" the aim was to not just set a world record, but to encourage people to get physically active and beat the worldwide health dilemma that is obesity.
The World Record could not have been broken without the combined effort of Tyres4U, GT Radial Tyres and Trans Tyres Merredin. And let's not forget, the 300 people that enthusiastically rolled the tyres, all at once for 100 metres.
It was a successful attempt, with 299 people crossing the 100m mark, beating the Newtown High School of Sandy Hook Connecticut USA record of 265.
To beat the previous world record, the tyres had to be all new, unused and of identical size, brand and make. That's where the combined effort of the organisers and sponsors came to fruition.
Tyres4U, Australia's leading independent tyre distributor, is the exclusive supplier for GT Radial in Australia. GT Radial operates one of the world's most modern tyre manufacturing plants and is one of the largest producers of tyres worldwide. Tyres4U and GT Radial worked with the sponsor of the event, Lora Nicoletti at Trans Tyres Merredin, to figure out the logistics of 'rolling' out a new world record.
Anyone at the Merredin Show was able to participate, with entrants ranging from children to senior citizens. Not only did this successful attempt break records and double as a message for men's health, but it provided an opportunity for a whole community to come together and achieve a goal as one team.
